“Erik Peter, my Father, was a larger than life person, full of energy and excitement for his craft. His favorite tobacco was navy flake, and 1931, this full-bodied smoke is a perfect example of his passion. It strikes a natural balance in the distinct characteristics of superior Burleys and mature Virginias by using a small measure of Black Cavendish to please true flake lovers.”
– Erik Stokkebye
Though the Stokkebye tobacco tradition dates back to 1882, the Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation brand wasn’t founded until 2012, and the 2012 Anniversary Blend commemorates that establishment. Composed entirely of mature Virginias pressed and cut into flakes, it features a subtle pear flavoring for a hint of sweetness and a satisfyingly rich smoking experience. It’s a remarkable blend from the esteemed tobacconist, continuing their historic legacy and passion for producing quality pipe tobaccos.
1.75 oz. Tin
A blend of Aromatic Golden Cavendish of Burley and rich Virginias, has depth resulting in a distinctively, delicious character.
This fine tobacco originally had no name. It was blended before the first World War especially for the Very Rev. Dr. John White, sometime minister of the Barony Kirk in Glasgow and Moderator of the General Assembly in Scotland in 1929. He introduced it to Stanley Baldwin, later Earl Baldwin, Prime Minister in 1923, 1924 and 1935. He liked it so much that regular supplies were sent down to him and it was he who suggested that it be called “Presbyterian Mixture”. As there continues to be controversy over the question of whether Presbyterian Mixture contains latakia, the following quote from page six of the blender’s 2008 catalogue should leave the matter settled: “Extraordinarily soft blend of finest US Virginia grades and a number of selected latakia leaf tips. Ideal mixture also for beginners with English tobaccos.” Originally blended for mass market by William P. Solomon, whose recipe it still follows.
50g tin. 21-year-old US grown Red Virginias that have been Cavendished and combined with 19-year-old St. James Parish Perique, pressed into broken flakes.
Matured Bright Virginia flakes deliver a bouquet of natural flavors-Â bread and hay with a light citrus undertone and a mild, amiable spice. This toasty, subtly sweet smoke charmingly showcases what the bright, flue-cured leaf is all about, delivered through an easy, cool burn.
Erik Paul, his Grandfather, was an entrepreneur and collector who loved to travel and experience many things. The 1897 blend is a colorful combination of light, golden Virginias, bronze Burley and a touch of black cavendish. The base of rich vanilla combines with notes of mild, sweet honey for a gentle aromatic sweetness. The 1897 has more black cavendish in it and has more sweetness in terms of the vanilla flavors, and it is a little bit milder.
A light, Oriental-focused English mixture accentuated with two novel, stoved tobaccos -Rustica and Katerini. The Orientals are musky and herbal, bringing much of the flavor alongside Red Virginia tang and wood as well as spice from the Stoved Katerini. The Stoved Rustica offers a stout body and peppery sensation, harmonizing with a light Latakia smokiness. Stoved -or Cavendish-tobaccos are often thought of as the vehicle for top flavoring. Though this is certainly a fine attribute, the wonderful characteristics imparted from the stoving process can easily be overlooked. Pipe Force illustrates just that with the stoving of two varietals for the first time, Rustica and Katerini.
Pipe Force, a series that celebrates pipe smoking by showing innovation isn’t a thing of the past, there are still frontiers to explore.
Max Erik’s is a blend of ripe Virginia tobaccos from the Carolinas and Georgia. The Blend is pressed into cakes for 7 days prior to cutting the cakes into flakes. A delightful smoke with natural sweetness and fresh citrus notes.
Hot-pressed and ready rubbed Rustica is stoved, resulting in a smoothing of the bold leaf, but its familiar BBQ tang and floral spice are preserved, dynamically complementing the caramelized sweetness of the Stoved Virginia. The Oriental Katerini takes to the Cavendish process beautifully, offering herbal, woody undertones. The result is an exotic mélange with a vitality that reimagines what a stoved mixture can be.

A woody, tangy mixture of select Virginia leaf is elevated with Stoved Katerini, adding dark berry and spice. Dark-Fired Kentucky and St. James Perique enrich the base with earthy notes, pepper, and a light smokiness. Episode VI is a savory, vinous evolution from the natural sweetness and dark flavor of the Virginia/Perique genre. Richness with nuance all the way down.
