Samuel Gawith’s 1792 Flake is rich, dark, and full-bodied pipe tobacco marked by its strong character and beautiful tonquin notes. Fire-cured Tanzanian leaf and steamed and pressed Virginias are pressed then steam-pressed to further marry and caramelize the flavors before being cut into decadent flakes.

Among the most popular English tobaccos still in production, Samuel Gawith’s Squadron Leader is a classic, quintessential English mixture featuring Bright and Dark Virginias combined with Latakia and Turkish leaf.
A fantastic blend of complementary ingredients: rum and maple applied to golden Virginia and mellow white burley.
This delicious mixture of burley, Virginia, and black cavendish is reminiscent of incredibly juicy, ripe peaches of summers past.
Sutliff’s Panna Cotta blend is comprised of a mix of bright Virginia, Burley, and Black Cavendish. Together, they create a pleasing taste and room note with notes of vanilla and caramel.
A blend of Aromatic Golden Cavendish of Burley and rich Virginias, has depth resulting in a distinctively, delicious character.
Double Pressed Latakia begins as a flake composed of Latakia, Virginia, Burley, and Oriental tobaccos. The aged flakes are then fully rubbed out and set aside to rest for several weeks. Afterward, the tobaccos are put into a press once more to form a crumble cake, which mellows the Latakia and further marries the flavors together for a rich, nicely balanced English blend.

Double Pressed Burley comprises sweet Virginias, Burley, and a touch of Dark-Fired Kentucky, which are then pressed and sliced into flakes. Afterward, the flakes are tumbled out into ribbons and given some time to breathe before being re-pressed into a crumble cake. Such a process further deepens and enriches the flavors, resulting in a well-balanced Burley blend.
A mellow and delightful Virginia-Perique blend, Sutliff’s 1849 (a nod to the founding date of the original Sutliff tobacco shop) provides tang, citrus, sweetness, and spice via a blend of choice Red Virginia, Bright flue-cured Virginia, and two different Perique varietals.
Available in convenient 2oz tins, and presented in crumble cake format, Haunted Bookshop Cake combines all of the benefits of the pressing process — including increased aging potential and an enhanced melding of flavors — with the ease of preparation enjoyed from ribbon cut blends, pipe smokers can simply tear off a delicious chunk and load the bowl. No nonsense. No fuss. Just a terrific pipe tobacco blend in a new, user-friendly composition.
Samuel Gawith’s Balkan Flake combines Virginias and Latakia for a distinctly smoky flavor profile that highlights the sweetness of the flue-cured leaf without additional Orientals. Pressed and sliced into flakes using some of the oldest operating machinery in England.
A unique blend of fine flue-cured Virginias, nutty Burleys, and a touch of Latakia, Samuel Gawith’s Chocolate Flake is a Virginia-forward flake tobacco with just a hint of smokiness enhanced by traditional casings of cocoa. Chocolate Flake is an entry to Samuel Gawith’s Kendal Mayor’s Collection, honoring Samuel Gawith’s legacy as the mayor of Kendal.
Samuel Gawith’s Perfection is a unique blend of Virginias, Orientals, and Latakia elevated by a touch of vanilla to complement the natural sweetness of the flue-cured leaf, as well as the inherent smoky character of the Latakia. It’s perfection.
Among Samuel Gawith’s oldest blends, Commonwealth is a full-flavored English blend composed entirely of Virginias and Latakia, resulting in a bold, full-bodied smoke with just the right amount of sweetness and spice.
Hot-pressed and ready rubbed Rustica is stoved, resulting in a smoothing of the bold leaf, but its familiar BBQ tang and floral spice are preserved, dynamically complementing the caramelized sweetness of the Stoved Virginia. The Oriental Katerini takes to the Cavendish process beautifully, offering herbal, woody undertones. The result is an exotic mélange with a vitality that reimagines what a stoved mixture can be.
Stoved—or Cavendish—tobaccos are often thought of as the vehicle for top flavoring. Though this is certainly a fine attribute, the wonderful characteristics imparted from the stoving process can easily be overlooked. Pipe Force illustrates just that with the stoving of two varietals for the first time, Rustica and Katerini.
The original Anthology was released in 2022 as a celebration of Cornell & Diehl’s 30th anniversary, and it featured a number of tobaccos that paid tribute to the brand’s rich history. Anthology 2023 is a similarly celebratory blend, though it celebrates the year 2023, showcasing a curated selection of exceptional Red Virginias from across the year’s releases. The blend comprises a mixture of 2013 Steamed Virginia Reds, 2019 North Carolina Reds, 2022 North Carolina Reds, and 2019 Georgia Reds that are treated with Cornell & Diehl’s proprietary stoving process and sliced into flakes. Primed for aging, Anthology 2023 is a unique take on the Virginia blend that’s highlighted by a naturally sweet and tangy profile which includes notes of earth, crushed allspice, black currant, and rich dark molasses.
The Double Pressed Dark Fired blend brings together Dark-Fired Kentucky Burley leaf sourced from two continents, combined with sweet Virginias. These ingredients are meticulously pressed and sliced into flakes. Afterward, the flakes undergo a gentle tumbling process, allowing them to aerate for weeks before being re-pressed into a crumble cake. The outcome is a matured blend boasting richer, deeper, and more consistent flavors. This tobacco blend offers a smoky and robust profile, perfect for effortless aging or immediate enjoyment.
The Latakia forward English mixture offers plenty of smoky flavor from the fired-cured leaf, which is artfully harmonized with floral, earthy stoved Rustica. A mixture of high-grade Virginias imparts a natural sweetness. Katerini, the sole oriental component, offers herb and spice notes bringing complexity and nuance to the favor profile.
A tribute to the Oriental-forward blends of yesteryear, Cornell & Diehl’s latest Small Batch release, Palmetto Balkan, delivers a uniquely Carolina-inspired interpretation of the celebrated Balkan mixtures that have captivated pipe smokers over the years.
