Tim Beaumont (Papa Bears Pipes) is a midwestern pipe maker located in Ohio.

Tim lives on a 35-acre horse farm that he shares with his wife Anita.

Out of necessity, Tim took a job at a bank in 1980. The plan was to stay “only until something more suitable” came along, which happened in 2018 when he retired from the banking business.

One of 7 kinds, Tim was always drawing, painting, sketching, and was considered a “pretty talented” artist. This talent and passion continued through the end of his high school years, but waned as he focused on work and raising a family.

As a young adult, Tim’s love of drawing switched to whittling and wood carving.

Lured by its natural beauty, Tim enjoys all sorts of woodworking. In addition to building furniture, he has hand-carved a variety of subjects from duck decoys to carousel horses and now religious icons.

In 2021, Tim made his first tobacco pipe, which he carved with a knife, and immediately made another few pipes using hand files and a palm sander. “My first pipe was functional but wasn’t very attractive. However, with each successive attempt, the function, shape, and eye appeal visibly improved. In addition to the drive to improve, the character and grain patterns in briar appealed to me deeply, and I was hooked.”

Today, Tim makes about 100 pipes per year in his shop at the farm and attends 4-5 shows annually, “the transition from banker to furniture maker to wood carver to pipe maker has been a true blessing for me, plus the pipe community has enriched my life. I get to work with beautiful wood and make pipes for my friends…it doesn’t get better than that”.
