Reid H. Robertson  is an American pipe maker from Lawrenceville, Georgia. A musician by education — he graduated from Furman University with a music degree in 2004 — he spent years afterward teaching English across East Asia with his future wife, Kelsey, before returning to the U.S. in 2018. It was Kelsey who gifted him a wood lathe in 2020, sparking his pipe making career in earnest.

Self-taught through online materials and mentored by several generous makers, Reid’s craft took its most significant leap in 2022 when he studied under David S. Huber in North Carolina. Inspired by the freehand, avant-garde work of makers like Huber, Jeff Gracik, Alex Florov and Tokutomi, he nonetheless learned that mastering classical shapes was prerequisite to more complex work — and that careful planning before touching the wheel was as important as any technical skill.
