Choctaw (Virginias and Cavendish)

Rated 4.80 out of 5 based on 5 customer ratings
(5 customer reviews)
A distinguished partner to Cherokee, Choctaw is a unique mixture of carefully selected Virginias married with rich black Cavendish. Semi-sweet, flavorful, and full of character, this blend offers a more robust take on our signature Virginia-Cavendish tradition. Many smokers find Choctaw to be a touch stronger than its sibling, owing to its different proportions and Virginia components—making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy depth without losing smoothness.

Originally known as “Cherokee #1,” Choctaw earned its own identity in the mid-1990s when “Cherokee #2” became today’s Cherokee. While similar in family, the subtle distinctions give Choctaw a loyal following of its own.

One of the great aromatics of all time. Great taste, friendly room note, and no bite. The wife actually invites me to smoke this in the house, it smells so good. Highly recommended.

If you’re looking to try something other than an aromatic but that’s not a full English, then this is a good start. Virginias are known for their grassy-forward notes and that’s what I get from this. It reminds me of standing in a field and smelling the tall grass on a summer evening. Kind of like smoking a cigar, you’re here to enjoy the tobacco on this one, and not a sweet casing. It doesn’t burn super hot either. 4/5 because I’m mostly an aromatic smoker, but I enjoyed it.

Three bowls in and Choctaw has become my favorite aromatic. Just a great, sweet smoke with a nice room note.

This is my favorite aromatic out of all that I’ve tried – Country Squire or elsewhere. It has a pleasant taste that is kind of bready and, as advertised, only semi-sweet; nothing like Cherokee, which to me is way too strongly flavored. I don’t perceive a discernable topping flavor in Choctaw. As I said, to me it’s kind of bready tasting. I love it. And equally important is the excellent room note. For reference, to illustrate my tobacco tastes, I prefer Va/Cav blends and I also really like Davidoff Flake Medallions and Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake.

A great middle of the road aromatic that keeps the tobacco flavors grounded. One reason I tend to stay away from aromatics are over done toppings and casings. I don’t get that with Choctaw. It’s a smooth, creamy smoke with pleasant notes of grass, bread, chocolate, toasted nuts and tea. I smoke outside but this is the first tobacco my wife said smelled good.
