Enjoyable smoke, burns really well, easily lit. When I got it I was a little surprised to see it looks like a ready-rubbed not a ribbon cut. Pleasant surprise I should clarify. Also smokier smelling than I expected but another bonus. Really enjoyed first two bowls, topping of cherry I get lightly, whisky I can’t pick up but I will not have any issues going through the 4oz and enjoying every bowl. I reserve 5 stars for masterpieces like Hunting Creek, but this is solid and one I won’t hesitate to order more of when I get to the bottom of the jar.

This hits the mark for an aromatic for me. It’s a tobacco first, sweet treat second blend. The dark fired leaf really let’s this one sit up and establish itself as something different than most aros. This is going to be one that seasoned pipers will want to have on hand to enjoy with company, as well as a great option for a first time puffer.

This was a delightful treat to say the least. The dark fired made such a presence I almost hesitated to call this an aromatic, but it works out all the same. Has a broken flack quality in the tobacco, not a straight ribbon cut like I’ve noticed with all of the other blends they do here. The whiskey makes an appearance, as does the light cherry topping but by no means would I call this a “cherry blend” that should only be smoked from a dedicated cherry pipe. I’d say you could enjoy this in any pipe you please. I was incredibly surprised and satisfied with this one, hope it sticks around for a long time.

The moment I opened the bag and took a whiff, I was transported back to fall in Clarksville, TN — when the tobacco barns are firing Dark-Fired Kentucky and the entire town is filled with that rich, smoky aroma. It’s glorious.
This blend is good — well-crafted and balanced. I found it approachable, with just enough topping to complement, not overpower, the natural tobacco flavor.
While it’s not my favorite Country Squire blend, It’s one I know I’ll revisit.

A mildly aromatic tobacco hints of cherry, Carmel and some vanilla. This in no way overshadows the burly, Virginia, and dark fired Kentucky but complements them perfectly. It’s on the stronger side of medium. This is one of my new favorite Country Squire blends. Well done Mr Covey.

I’m mostly an aromatic smoker , but this was a nice change . Almost like an English/ aromatic cross . I definitely got the citrus notes and almost a cedar taste

This is an atypical aromatic for me. The bag note almost had me worried. I only smelled smoky notes and nothing sweet. Upon smoking the slight sweetness came through and the smokiness (assuming the dark fired) was far more subdued. I never got a hint of whiskey as the name might suggest, but did get a taste of cherry toward the bottom of the bowl. It’s a good aromatic for summer in the south!

A perfect representation of what The Country Squire is best at! The aroma permeates from the package. I could smell it in my mailbox. Sweet and woodsy all at once. It packs beautifully and first light is delicious and dances on the palette. Sweet and smokey at first the dark fired kentucky takes precedent. Mid-bowl the flavor shifts to a whiskey and cherry note. Final notes are more of the dark fired kentucky and citrus. A pleasure from beginning to end.

Unlike some tobacconists, I can honestly say I have never tried a TCS blend that was bad. Some I enjoy more than others, but I’ve never tossed one out or even thrown one in a jar to “age and try again later.”
Old Fashioned is no exception. If, like me, you prefer your aromatics subdued you’ll enjoy this one. No overpowering syrup or goop. Just a quality tobacco with a pleasant room note and taste. No bite, mild nic hit.

Like every blend I’ve smoked from the Squire, this one does not disappoint. It’s a true aromatic, not a syrup-soaked monstrosity. Quality leaf with earthy notes, and just a pleasant compliment of fruit. The wife didn’t complain about the room note, so that’s an added bonus.

As others have said, my palate is hardly as nuanced as some, but it is an enjoyable smoke. I think I could sit and smell the aroma from the pouch all day. To me, it is what pipe tobacco should smell like! As for smoking it, I found it to be strong, in a good way, without being bitter. The aroma when smoked is pleasant, and it is pleasantly strong on the exhale, unlike some tobaccos which seem to lose their scent after burning.
I lit the pipe three times, twice upon initial light, once about mid-way through the bowl. Perfect! Very pleased, will become one of my main rotations, along with A.K.A. Tombigbee, my all-time favorite. Cheers!

I think most everyone has hit all the characteristics and flavors of this blend spot on. I am really enjoying it and have probably through a dozen bowls at this time, usually early in the morning or late in the evening, as it is a fuller blend that I can’t wait to try out this fall. Loving it and have bought another half pound of this great blend. Awesome job TCS! Keep it up!!!

I don’t review a lot, but I came to leave a review on this to hopefully it remains a blend for a long time. You guys just nailed it. A great old fashioned doesn’t seek to cover up the whiskey flavor, but enhance and add a subtle sweetness. The VA and DFK could be great and stand on its own here, but you have slightly enhanced it and it’s just wonderful. This is a one of a kind.

This is a satisfying smoke. I’m used to ribbon cut, so the ready rubbed type texture made it tricky the first couple of times. The retrohale affords a very lightfruit and bourbon, perhaps. There’s a delightful sweet n smokey tendency using the breath method. The mouthfeel is a bit medium— so you can enjoy manipulating it. This is a bit comparable to Cowboy Coffee for me, but lacks the richness and brilliant simplicity of that blend. I get another ounce when I’m done!

I was a little hesitant at first. After my first bowl, I think it may be one of my new favorites. The bag note i get is boozy, sweet, and smoky from the DFC. The taste while smoking is awesome. Sweet, a touch smoky, and a woodsy bourbon finish. I get slight tastes of the cherry from time to time throught the session. Which im glad its not as cherry forward as I thought. Very pleasant. The room note is a great smoky/ oak like smell with hints of warm vanilla. Definitely will be buying more soon. What a blend!
